Matt has a strong combination of private and public sector public relations, and communications management experience. He has directed economic development efforts for Indiana’s Governor, served with one of America’s most innovative Mayors and managed three statewide political campaigns. He has also been a senior public relations executive for America’s fourth largest advertising agency, MarcUSA, and has served with Indiana’s Attorney General.

In addition to his role at Westcomm, Matt currently serves as an equity partner for the Steward Carter Group and for C3 Communications Inc. He also serves on the leadership team of Axia Technology Partners. Matt’s areas of expertise include public relations, internal/external communications, crisis management planning, communications SOPs, media and public speaking training.

As the former Director of Motorsports Development for Governor Mitch Daniels and the State of Indiana, Steward coordinated with industry leaders to form the Indiana Motorsports Association and the motorsports caucus in the Indiana General Assembly. These efforts along with managing an entire motorsports marketing effort selling Indiana as the best place to operate racing related businesses brought many new jobs and opportunities to the “Motorsports Capital of the World.”

Matt is a political campaign expert, who has successfully managed three statewide campaigns. He most recently earned a statewide victory serving as the campaign manager for Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman and was able to celebrate another election victory with Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter. Matt also led a hard fought gubernatorial primary for Mitch Daniels that inspired thousands of new voters to get involved in the political process. Each time Matt was able to use a clear and targeted communication strategies that resonated with voters and handily outperformed opposing candidates.

Matt received official public recognition for his work with Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. He successfully represented the Mayor and the City at many high-profile events and fulfilled the duties of the Director of Enterprise Development as he managed outsourced City contracts. Along with various policy analysis responsibilities, Steward served the City of Indianapolis as a community liaison, government affairs specialist and speech writer.

As the Director of Public Relations for the Office of the Indiana Attorney General, Matt met with and addressed the needs of dozens of national and state business associations affected by state legislative and policy decisions. He represented the AG on government boards, helped establish the Do Not Call List, and managed a major gasoline price fixing investigation during a time of national fuel shortages.

Matt is a communications and media relations expert who has managed numerous national and international clients. He is able to grow client’s businesses by increasing their brand awareness through earned media opportunities gained from his extensive national and local media relationships.
